What are the benefits of achieving this goal?

David Fung, TLI Leadership Coach is up this week with a question that slows things down in the best way.

What are the benefits of achieving this goal?

Most people skip straight to the how. The goal gets set, the plan gets built, and everyone jumps into execution mode. And that energy is great but it skips something important.

Why does this goal actually matter?
What shifts when it gets achieved?
What does it mean for the person pursuing it?

That's what this question uncovers. Not the strategy — the connection. And that connection is what keeps people moving when the plan gets hard, when momentum stalls, when the day-to-day grind makes the goal feel abstract and far away.

Ask it before you get into the how. Give people a chance to articulate what's actually at stake for them. The commitment that follows is a different kind than the one you get from a good action plan alone.
